Tropical Cyclone 18 should become Tropical Storm Rafael on Monday, Nov. 4, the National Hurricane Center said in an advisory issued late Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3.
The system is expected to move near Jamaica Monday night and Tuesday, Nov. 5.
A tropical storm warning has been issued for Jamaica, and a hurricane watch has been issued for the Cayman Islands.
Tropical storm watches could be issued for the Florida Keys Sunday night or Monday, the hurricane center said.
It's then predicted to approach the northern Gulf Coast as a tropical storm later this week.
It could then extend to areas of the southeast US toward the end of the week, on Thursday, Nov. 7, and Friday, Nov. 8.
